Use AGO Cards with Snakes and Ladders and Other Board Games

Numbered AGO cards can replace a die in Snakes and Ladders and many other board games. The adaptation adds a reading or speaking task to every turn.

Make a face-down draw pile using numbered AGO cards. On a player’s turn, they draw a card, complete its language task and move the number of spaces shown. With AGO Q&A, the player asks or answers the question. With AGO Phonics, they read the words and target sound.

Place used cards in a discard pile. Reshuffle them when the draw pile is empty.

This method works with almost any game that normally uses a die or spinner. Adjust the card range if the original game expects smaller numbers, or agree that higher cards have a maximum movement value.
